Tucker Lake Boardwalk Upgrades
Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail Closed from Crystal View Road to M22. Detour on Westman Road.
If you've traveled the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail recently, you've likely noticed that the Tucker Lake boardwalk is under construction. We wanted to share an update on the project and thank everyone for their patience.
Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes helps maintain the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail in partnership with the National Park Service. During routine volunteer inspections last year, our trail volunteers identified several boardwalk boards that were beginning to rot, posing potential safety concerns. Temporary repairs were made at the time, but it was clear that a more comprehensive renovation would be needed this year.
The National Park Service Roads, Trails, and Grounds crew is now working alongside SEEDS to replace all of the boardwalk decking. Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes provided funding for the new boardwalk boards, which are currently on order and undergoing curing. Once the lumber is delivered, the crew will return to complete the boardwalk reconstruction.
We know the temporary detour onto Westman Road has been inconvenient, and we appreciate your patience while this important safety improvement is completed. We look forward to welcoming everyone back onto the trail as soon as the project is finished later this summer.
