National Trails Day®

As many of you may know, National Trails Day® is approaching. In fact, it is this Saturday, June 7th. On this special NATIONAL day, we encourage you to go outside, reconnect with nature and the trails around you while giving back. According to the American Hiking Society, everyone is encouraged to be a trail steward anytime. Trail stewards are always working to preserve, maintain, and protect the trails while making sure the trails stay maintained, are always welcoming, as well as accessible, not just today, or tomorrow but in the future as well. This day is specifically geared toward trail service. Many bikers, hikers, walkers, paddle boarders and local organizations come together to both clean up and maintain both trails and public land.

Join the Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes at Glen Haven and Good Harbor Beach from 8am-12pm this Saturday to help us in celebrating National Trails Day®. All are welcomed to help with a beach clean-up, bike the heritage trail, or hike a rustic trail. Click here to learn more about the event on our “Events” page.

So, what is your call to action? We encourage you to take a grocery bag with you to gather any trash you may find to leave the trail better than you found it. Also, you can volunteer with a local non-profit organization such as Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes, take the National Trails Day Pledge- to promise to care for the trails and do your best to keep them “greener”, as well as spreading the word to your friends and family to join you in celebrating National Trails Day®. Refer to the Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes website to volunteer. https://www.friendsofsleepingbear.org/volunteer-with-the-friends

Don’t forget to share your impact by tagging #NationalTrailsDay as well as @AmericanHiking to make a difference.
