National Trails Day

  • Sleeping Bear Dunes Visitors Center 9922 West Front Street Empire, MI, 49630 United States (map)

Celebrate National Trails Day® on June 6, 2026, by joining a local event and taking the #NationalTrailsDay Pledge.

National Trails Day® is your chance to get outdoors, connect with your community, and give back to the trails you love. Any trail. Anywhere. Every year, people across the country unite on the first Saturday of June in celebration of this day, and it’s the perfect opportunity to get outside, practice trail stewardship.

The Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes will have tents set up in front of the Visitors Center in Empire featuring our Track Chair. Another Friend’s tent will be located in Glen Haven where the Wheelchair Bike will be out for visitors to check out. Our goal is to bring awareness to visitors on how to be good stewards to the Park and everywhere they visit.

Trails connect us to nature and to each other — and National Trails Day® is an incredible opportunity to experience that connection firsthand. Listen to the birdsong, enjoy the fresh air, and take in the beauty of the trees, blooming flowers, and the natural world around you. There's nothing quite like being present in the outdoors.

National Trails Day® is about ensuring that the outdoors are for all, and that the trails and public lands we cherish are preserved for generations to come. Our trails and public lands need our help more than ever, and this is the perfect time to give back.

Let’s get outside this National Trails Day®, care for the trails, and ensure everyone feels welcome with access to enjoy the beauty of nature. Together, we can make a lasting impact!

Celebrate the 34th annual National Trails Day® with these easy steps:

  1. Join: Together, we can make a lasting impact by cleaning up trails, maintaining public lands, and fostering a sense of community in the outdoors. Come say hi! We will be at the Visitors Center and Glen Haven.
