Flower 4-10 dandelion-like, bright yellow flowers abut 1" wide grow on a single stalk.  They typically only open one at a time.  It is a composite flower made up of 20-30 individual flowers.
Leaf Linear, coarse-toothed basal leaves 2-5" long. 
Notes This is one of about 15 species of hawkweed that grow in Michigan.  Flowers close at night and on cloudy days.
