You’ve
probably driven by this old Port Oneida Farm site many times without noting
the signs of a farm now long-abandoned and disappeared. The Millington Farm
stood on the west side of M-22, just south of the Werner Farm (then owned by
the Hollands, followed by Franklin & Leona Basch). (See the
Millington Farm
Map)
Alvin
Millington worked for D.H. Day, in addition to maintaining his own farm.
According to Laura Basch, the Millington Farm had a nice herd of Guernsey
cows—"They
were considered some of the best cows around." Mr. Millington delivered his
milk around Glen Arbor.
She recalled that in his later years Mr. Millington would go stay with
neighboring farmers, doing chores for his board. Leonard recalls him at
home: “He used to have one of these old metal day beds hanging from a big
maple tree. He used to just lay out there in the shade & swing back &
forth…That was old Al. |
