2005 Port Oneida Fair

The 2005 Port Oneida fair was held August 5 & 6 at several different sites in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.  Over 4,000 people visited the fair generating significant interest in the history of the Port Oneida region, how it became part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and future plans for the area.  Check this link for a summary of this history.

The fair was sponsored by the Friends this year but it was a cooperative effort by many groups including the following:

  • Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes
  • Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear
  • Leelanau Historical Museum
  • Shielding Tree Nature Center
  • Glen Arbor Art Association
  • Glen Lake Chamber of Commerce
  • Leelanau Conservation District.

Taylor Printing donated printing for the Fair posters.  Leelanau.com and Andrew McFarlane did web site design and hosting.  Cherry Republic donated ice cream at the Olsen farm.  Bay Area Transportation Authority supplied the trolley.  Coca-Cola donated bottled water for the volunteers.  Cynthia Dougal supplied professional scanning of artwork, and Deerings Market, Empire donated ice.  There were many volunteers who worked during the two days of the fair.

There were about 80 presenters.  Some of them are shown below.
