Oleson Family Photos - Courtesy of Ruth Ann (Baker) Oleson

Ruth Ann (Baker) Oleson was born at home on the Fred and Grace Baker Farm in Port Oneida, in 1918.  She was raised there with her two sisters, Lucille and Greta.  At age 18 she went off to Ann Arbor for nursing school.  After graduating as an RN she stayed and worked at University Hospital for four years.

In 1944  She married Coast Guardsman Carl Oleson and joined him at the Charlevoix Station, followed by a tour at Leelanau Point.  In 1948 The Olesons settled down in Glen Arbor and opened The Sportsman Shop.  In addition to helping run their business, Ruth served on the Glen Arbor Volunteer Rescue Squad for 37 years.

In 2004 Mrs. Oleson spent many hours recording her knowledge of area history, researching missing information, and providing these family photos for public benefit.
