Basal leaves are like dandelion
having jagged, sharp-pointed lobes. There are few leaves on the stems
especially on the upper part. Leaves are hairy. |

Stems are wiry and
tough. Chicory was imported from Eurasia to be cultivated for its
taproot, which can be roasted and ground as a coffee substitute.
Leaves are edible but bitter. |
