The Pt.
Oneida Women’s Club met in members’ homes to socialize and do craftwork.
Later the group broadened into the Port Oneida Community Club, meeting in
the old schoolhouse.
Lottie
Kelderhouse had the telephone exchange in this house. Later it was in Ruby
Smith’s home across the road. You had to watch what you said on the party
line. “Tick tock, tick tock, I hear Mrs. Holland’s clock,” was a Port
Oneida refrain. Reportedly, Katie Holland’s distinctive wall-clock was
often heard during neighbors’ conversations. |
