The Charles & Hattie Olsen
Farm, seen from across the garden, circa 1938. The berry patch was on the
hillside behind the buildings. Hattie grew raspberries and blackberries “as
big as thimbles...There’s nothing better than leaves for fertilizing
berries.” The girls from Camp Kohahna would come down to pick and buy
them. Hattie used her earnings to buy things for the house. In her later
years Hattie moved her berries down by the other side of the house, where
they were easier to get to.
